(P) Discover the German School Bucharest!

12 November 2015

We are a German Foreign School recognized and subsidized by the German Foreign Department. DSBU is an NGO financed by membership contributions, donations and sponsors. We work according to the concept of an international school of encounter and facilitate intercultural learning. In our school children of different nationalities learn together. We have a nursery, kindergarten, and school under the same roof and thus make it possible for children to profit from the continuous education according to the principle “learning with the mind, heart and hands”. The classes in elementary school and high school are in German on a native level. Our teachers are qualified in Germany. In addition to that, the children learn English and Romanian and start with French in secondary level I. The German School Bucharest is a member of the Worldwide Association of German Foreign Schools and thus part of a global network. The school is sustained locally by the German Embassy for organizational and administrative issues.

The curricula, timetables and learning materials that we use are part of the educational plan of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The regulations are observed strictly, and thus students of the DSBU will be able to change schools in case of moving to Germany or to another school abroad. The method of teaching used by DSBU teachers according to the curriculum is “learning holistically”, i.e. learning with your “brain, heart and hand”. Thus, the children are valued as integral persons with all their strengths and weaknesses as well as their interests. They are being approached with all their senses and feelings – this is the way children learn best. So lessons by German native speakers are practical, close to real life and activity-oriented. Small and sometimes combined classes help maintain this pedagogical approach and implies a high quality of teaching for the students. Teachers can commit themselves to the individual needs of the children, support them in a special way and watch their development closely.
