Ministry: International terrorists buy disposable phone cards in Romania

The lack of legislation for pre-paid mobile phone cards poses threats, as members of international crime groups and terrorists have been buying large numbers of pre-pay cards in Romania, the Romanian Interior Ministry has warned.

Even small – time criminals, such as burglars, buy pre-paid cards before a theft. The Ministry has asked the Parliament to draft a new law to change the so-called Big Brother law so as to allow control over the sale of pre-pay cards.

The Constitutional Court recently rejected the Big Brother law, which proposed gathering personal data about those who buy pre-paid phone cards.
