Less than a fifth of the homes in Romania are insured
The number of active policies for the mandatory home insurance (PAD) rose last year by over 99,600, to some 1.6 million policies.
At the end of December last year, 18.7% of the total 8.5 million homes in Romania were insured, according to the statistics of the Pool of Insurance against Natural Disasters (PAID).
By comparison, Romania had almost 1.5 million mandatory home insurance policies at the end of 2014.
About three-quarters (74.4%) of the active home policies at the national level were concluded in urban areas, and only 25.6% were signed for homes in villages.
Bucharest and the south of Romania rank first among Romania’s regions for the number of active PAD policies, with a 19% share each. Transylvania comes next, with 18%. The Maramures area records the lowest number of active PAD policies, with a share of only 2% of the total number.
