Government faces no confidence vote in Parliament today
He vote of no confidence follows the Government decision to cut pensions and state salaries as a measure meant to alleviate the country's budget deficit, following a review of the stand-by agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The measure was challenged by the PSD.
For the vote to pass and the Government to be dismissed, 236 favorable votes are needed, out of a total of 471 Mps. PD-L has 178 Mps, while PSD and PNL together count 213 Mps. An extra 23 votes would be required. Meanwhile, some members of the Parliament who are also PD-L members said they would also support the no confidence vote, as they don't agree with the Government's measures, even if they represent the same party.
