Romanian European Parliament Member Monica Macovei, also a former Justice Minister, recently launched her candidacy in the presidential race to take place this fall.

She posted a video on her official website, saying Romania can do more, and that the country is currently at a crossroad. Macovei was re-elected for a seat in the European Parliament two months ago.

She started her career as a prosecutor, then became a human rights lawyer, and in 2004 was Justice Minister. Five years ago, she was first elected for the European Parliament.

In the presidential race, Macovei, who is not the Democrat Liberal Party’s official candidate, will run against Prime Minister Victor Ponta, and the National Liberal Party leader Klaus Johannis.
