Bill: State should reinforce high seismic risk buildings in Romania

12 February 2016

The state may pay for reinforcing the buildings with the highest seismic risk that are located in Bucharest, even if it doesn’t own them.

The buildings’ owners wouldn’t have to pay anything, and the money would come from the Fund for the Buildings with Imminent Seismic Risk, according to a draft law initiated by the MP Ovidiu Raetchi.

The buildings should be reinforced with urgency, Ovidiu Raetchi said, cited by local Hotnews.ro. Creating a special fund would simplify the procedure. The fund would ensure that the state provides all the money for strengthening the buildings with high seismic risk.

Several owners refuse to reinforce the buildings, because they don’t have the necessary funds, but this would solve the issue, the MP said.
