US plans to station 150 tanks and combat vehicles in Europe, possibly in Romania

The US plans to station some 150 tanks and armored vehicles in Europe - in Romania, Poland or the Baltic States - by the end of 2015, which will be used by the US forces' training in the region.

Some of these vehicles could be stationed in Poland, Romania or the Baltic countries, said Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, commander of the US armed forces in Europe, according to Reuters.  There is the risk that the pro-Russians separatists in eastern Ukraine launch a new offensive in spring, according to Hodges.

The US intention to station armored vehicles in Europe was motivated by the need to strengthen Eastern Europe in case of an emergency, Hodges said. "We are talking about approximately 150, 160 M1 tanks and M2 Bradley combat vehicles and 24 self-propelled artillery pieces," added Hodges.
