Six-hundred people team prepares Depeche Mode concert in Romania

18 July 2017

A six-hundred people team is in charge with the logistics of the upcoming Depeche Mode concert in Cluj-Napoca in Western Romania.

The concert takes place Sunday, July 23, and is the first one the group holds in Cluj-Napoca and the last one of the European part of their Global Spirit Tour. Depeche Mode previously performed in Romania in Bucharest, in 2013 and in 2006.

A 50 meters wide and 20 meters deep stage will be set up at Cluj Arena, alongside large screens showing projections prepared by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, who also worked with U2, the organizers announced, quoted by News.ro.

Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher will share a stage room, while Dave Gahan will have his own, designed with a minimalist décor, in neutral, mostly black colors. Gahan prefers the black color for the coffee mugs, the towels, and the drapes. A flower bouquet will bring a dot of color to the setting. The furniture will also be special, consisting of modular sofas manufactured by a Baia Mare company.

Access to the Sunday concert is made starting 17:00 for those who purchased Early Entry packages. Starting 17:30 access is open to all.

British DJ and producer Maya Jane Coles will perform in the opening of the event, starting 19:30, while Depeche Mode will start their concert at 20:45.

Depeche Mode’s roots go back to 1976, when Vince Clarke and Andrew Fletcher started a band called No Romance in China. After the arrival of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan in 1980, the band adopted the name Depeche Mode. Clarke left after the band had made its first album and Martin Gore then became the main songwriting force. In 1984, with the fourth album, appropriately titled Some Great Reward, came massive commercial success and the group went on to have a number of hit albums and singles for the rest of the decade and into the early 90s. The group had a four year break, but returned in the late 90s and have enjoyed huge success, particularly with their tours, ever since.
