Romanian wins largest lottery prize ever in his home country, with simple, EUR 4 ticket

A Romanian recently won a lottery prize of over EUR 11 million, the biggest prize in the history of the lottery in Romania so far, after the draw on July 14. The prize – RON 48.9 million – went to a Romanian from the city of Galati, who bought a ticket of RON 16.9 (or some EUR 3.8). He has 3 months to pick up his prize.

The big lottery prize for the first category was last won in November 2012, when it was of about RON 2.8 million. The second largest prize so far in Romania was of RON 46.9 million in 2008, when its value in EUR was of EUR 12.4 million. Last year, the grand lottery prize was won just five times.

The Romanian lottery is owned by the State, and plans to have a profit of some EUR 15 million this year, with revenues of some EUR 227 million.
