Romanian lender hires journalists to explain banking contracts

22 September 2017

Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), the largest local lender, has published three booklets written by three journalists, which try to explain banking concepts in simple words.

They have the role of informing customers and don’t produce legal effects, but bank officials said they were thinking about passing some of this experience in real contracts as well, according to local Profit.ro.

Simona Tache, Ioan T.Morar and Vlad Petreanu wrote the booklets. These include explanations about concepts such as mortgages, annual interest rate or credit card. The booklets also give information about the relationship between the customer and the bank after signing a contract.

BCR decided to create these booklets because of the recurrent criticism that regular people don’t understand what is written in contracts. “Translating from the banks’ language to Romanian is not the easiest thing,” said Morar.
