Romania’s wheat production has exceeded 10 million tons this year, which is a first time, said Liviu Dragnea, the president of the governing Social Democratic Party (PSD).

The country has also recorded the largest rapeseed production in history, namely 1.7 million tons. In addition, the barley production has been the highest in the last 23 years, Dragnea added.

The PSD leader said that the good results have been related to the good weather and subsidies granted on time.

Romania’s wheat production rose by 7% last year compared to the previous year reaching 8.4 million tons. It recorded an average of over 4 tons per hectare. The rapeseed production amounted to 1.2 million tons last year.

Former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, who is an agricultural engineer, commented on Dragnea’s statements, mocking him for attributing the record production to a series of factors, including God’s will and the current Government’s activity, and hoping this year’s record production would bring benefits for those living in the countryside, who work the land.
