Romania's Govt. gives public employees a day off on August 14

21 July 2017

Romania’s Government has decided that August 14 will be a free day for public employees this year.

This means that state employees will benefit from a four-day mini-holiday. The Government took into account that August 15 is an official free day for all Romanians, as it corresponds to St. Mary, a religious celebration in the Orthodox Church calendar.

Public employees will thus be free both the weekend of August 12-13, as well as the next two days, on August 14-15.

The last mini-holiday for state employees was between June 1-5. The Government then passed a decision to declare Friday, June 2, a free day for state employees in order to link June 1 (which fell on Thursday) to June 5 (Monday).
