Romanian to lead LafargeHolcim operations in Europe

18 December 2017

LafargeHolcim, the largest manufacturer of building materials in the world, has appointed the Romanian Marcel Cobuz to lead its operations in Europe. He will be the number two in the company, along with four other regional directors, reports local Capital.ro.

Marcel Cobuz will take over the office from January 1 next year, replacing Roland Kohler, who decided to retire. He will also be member in the group’s Board of Directors.

Cobuz, 47, started working for the company in 2000. He has been executive director in Indonesia, Iraq and now in Morocco. He has dual citizenship: Romanian and French.

He began his career in Romania’s National Bank (BNR) and was among those who established the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Between 2003 and 2006, he was financial director of Lafarge Greece and Romania.

The LafargeHolcim group emerged after the merger between French group Lafarge and Swiss competitor Holcim in 2015 when it became the world's largest building materials manufacturer. Cobuz was responsible for Lafarge's pre-integration process in the LafargeHolcim merger project.
