Prince Rainier III of Monaco’s statue to be erected in Bucharest

A bronze statue representing Prince Rainier the Third of Monaco, created by Romanian sculptor Ionel Stoicescu will be sited in Bucharest, under EUR 161,000 financing. The Monuments Administration proposed a location in front of the Circus building in the Romanian capital. The bronze statue will be life sized and will form part of a monumental set in honor of Prince Rainier.

Prince Rainier Monaco, who died in 2005, ruled the tiny Mediterranean principality for 55 years. He was married to American actress Grace Kelly and is the father of Monaco’s current head, Prince Albert the Second.

Five other new statues will be erected in Bucharest this year, representing actors, writers and historic figures: actor Gheorghe Dinica, writers Mircea Eliade, Emil Cioran, Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu and 1840s revolutionary Avram Iancu.
