Over 27.7 million people transited Romania’s borders in the first six months of this year, up 7% year-on-year.

Of the total, more than 22 million were EU citizens and over a third transited the border points between Romania and Hungary. Some 3.8 million transited the border between Romania and the Republic of Moldova during this period.

At the border with Bulgaria, the traffic increased by 27% compared to the previous year.

More than 7.8 million people entered or left the country through airports and 108,000 arrived or left by ship in the first six months of this year.

Starting April, the Romanian Border Police performs systematic checks on entering and leaving EU member states, as a result of the entry into force of a bill amending the Schengen Borders Code.
