Media: Former EADS Germany manager, indicted in a bribery case which started in Romania

08 December 2014

Stefan Zoller, the former manager of EADS Germany, which is part of European aeronautical group Airbus, has allegedly been indicted in a bribery case in which EADS is investigated, which is related to contracts closed by the group in Romania and Saudi Arabia, according to unofficial sources quoted by German magazine Der Spiegel.

The information hasn’t been confirmed yet by the Munich prosecutor’s office, which is investigating the case, while Zoller denied the information.

The prosecutors in Munich conducted several searches, last week, at Airbus’ local offices, in a case in which the group is investigated for paying bribes to get contracts abroad, in Romania and Saudi Arabia.

The corruption suspicions are tied to EUR 3 billion worth of contracts closed with Saudi Arabia and Romania, in which Airbus supplied the two countries with equipment to secure their borders.

Anticorruption prosecutors in Romania are also investigating the contract between EADS and the Romanian state, which was closed in late 2004 and had a total value of EUR 734 million. Senior Romanian Government officials allegedly received some EUR 60 million in bribes to close the deal with EADS, according to local and German media.
