Pro Patrimonio organizes fundraising concert for Romania's wooden churches

20 January 2011

A fund raising concert called Chamber Music for Wooden Churches, featuring Erik Schumann, Razvan Popovici and David Cohen will take place on January 28 at the National Military Circle, starting 19,30 hours. The event is organized by the Pro Patrimonio foundation, the Order of the Romanian Architects and SoNoRo festival.

The program will include Trio in B-Major by Franz Schubert, Duo for Violin and Violoncello by Zoltán Kodály, Aubade for string trio by George Enescu, String Trio in G-Major, Op.9 Nr.1 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Tickets cost RON 200 and are available at the entrance desk from 17,30 hours on the performance day. For reservations, contact Florence Margarit by phone 0724.072.714 or e-mail florence.margarit@gmail.com.

The funds raised from this concert will go to a program meant to preserve 60 churches in northern Oltenia and south of Transylvania, which are historical monuments, most of which unknown and in danger of collapsing. The Pro Patrimonio Foundation started the project for protecting these wooden churches in 2009. These wooden churches require several emergency interventions which cost between EUR 3,000 and EUR 6,000 each.

The Pro Patrimonio Foundation was created in 2000 by the architect Serban Cantacuzino, and placed under the high patronage of King Michael of Romania.Pro Patrimonio owns two properties: in Campulung Muscel (Golescu Villa) and in the Transylvanian Saxon village of Viscri (a peasant’s house dated XIX century).
