Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends Romanians to avoid non-essential trips abroad

20 August 2020

Given the evolution of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by the Romanian authorities to limit the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has recommended Romanians to travel abroad only if absolutely essential.

MAE noted in a press release that the Romanian authorities are periodically updating the list of countries/areas with high epidemiological risk. This means that certain states could be included on this list in the coming weeks, and flights could be canceled. Also, travelers coming to Romania from these countries/areas are required to self-isolate for 14 days.

“Given that the mentioned list is updated weekly by the National Institute of Public Health in Romania, MAE emphasizes that there is a possibility for certain states/areas to be included by the Romanian authorities in the list of countries/areas with high epidemiological risk. Travelers should also take into account that flights to/from the respective states/areas may be canceled,” reads MAE’s press release

The ministry also recommends that citizens check the websites of the National Institute of Public Health and the MAE (here and here) for updated information on international travel and restrictions.

As for the Romanians abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised them “to maintain contact with airlines and tour operators, depending on their specific situations, to identify alternatives to return to Romania, if the situation requires it.”
