Andrei studied finance at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies and started his journalism career in 2004 with Ziarul Financiar, the leading financial newspaper in Romania, where he worked for ten years, the last six of which as editor of the capital markets section. He joined the Romania-Insider.com team in 2014 as editor and became Editor-in-Chief in 2016. He currently oversees the daily content published on Romania-Insider.com and likes to stay up to date with everything relevant in business, politics, and life in Romania. Andrei lives with his family in the countryside in Northern Romania, where he built their own house. In his free time, he studies horticulture and tends to his family’s garden. The Credit Europe Bank shareholders have recently approved the appointment of Omer Tetik, the first vice-president of Credit Europe Romania Bank, as president and head of the Administration Council. Tetik replaces Murat Sabaz, who will stay in the bank’s board. Omer Tetik will start on the new job once the Romanian Central Bank (BNR) approves the management change.

The third Thursday of November is always the time when French people celebrate the Beaujolais Nouveau and drink the newly produced red wine of the year. This yearly celebration is best tasted in its home country, France, but the French community in Bucharest usually also organizes events to celebrate the Beaujolais Nouveau. This year, such an event will take place at the Ici et La restaurant (43 Mendeleev St.)

Romania had the highest annual inflation rate in the EU in October this year, of 7.9 percent, while the average in the EU was of 2.3 percent, and in the Euro zone, of 1.9 percent. The lowest level of inflation was recorded in Ireland, with minus 0.8 percent, Letonia, with 0.9 percent, Slovakia, with 1 percent. 15 EU member states saw their inflation up in October- Romania included.

Over 1,000 Volksbank Romania clients have asked the court for their bank loan installments to be discontinued while they are on trial hoping to eliminate the allegedly abusive clauses in their loan contracts. The first term for the collective trial has been set for November 7, next year, but the law firm representing the Volksbank clients, Piperea & Asociatii, is analyzing whether to request a sooner date for the trial.

Romania ranks 18th out of 30 countries listed in the World Bank Migration and Remittances Factbook 2011 (read the report below), with 2.8 million emigrants, close to Indonesia, with 2.5 million. The percentage of emigrants of the total population in Romania is of 13.2 percent. Romania is also among the top remittance-receiving countries, with an estimated USD 4.5 billion for this year, ranking 22nd out of 30 countries.
