Aerostar opens EUR 10 mln aircraft service center in eastern Romania

02 September 2020

Romanian aeronautical industrial group Aerostar opened in Iasi, eastern Romania, a maintenance center for civil aircraft such as Airbus 320 and Boeing 737, after a EUR 10 million investment.

The maintenance center in Iasi is intended only for civil aviation.

"This project is older, but it started two years ago. We then proposed a budget of EUR 10 mln for this investment, and we are still in the budget. In Iasi, we will carry out heavy maintenance work, not control work, but extensive repair work of type C and D, which requires people with special skills and permits. Our customers are from Europe, Turkey, and beyond. The hangar is sized so that we can work on three aircraft simultaneously. The increase of the operations to three aircraft will be done gradually, depending on the evolution of the market and the staff's training," explained the general manager of Aerostar, Grigore Filip.

Based in Bacau, eastern Romania, Aerostar is one of the biggest defense contractors in Romania, but it also works for the civil aviation segment. The company is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange and has a market capitalization of nearly EUR 140 mln.
