Historian Larry Watts launches book about Romanian – Russian relationship

American historian Larry Watts will launch his most recent book ‘With Friends Like These: The Soviet Bloc’s Clandestine War against Romania’ on November 12 at the Anthony Frost Bookshop from 17,00 hours (45 Calea Victoriei St).

The book’s foreword is signed by Ioan Talpes, the former head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Affairs. The book has been handed as a gift to the participants at the Trilateral Commission meeting held in Romania in October (more details about the meeting here). A book launch was also organized at the time within a symposion.

The book was published at the Editura Militara printing house. Larry L. Watts, a well-known American specialist in the history of Romania during the Second World War, is a former Rand consultant and adviser on military reform to the Romanian Defense Ministry and has been advising the Romanian government on intelligence matters. His previous books include ‘Romanian Military Reform and NATO Integration’, ‘Romania and Euro-Atlantic Integration’, and ‘Odessa 1941-1944: A Case Study Of Soviet Territory Under Foreign Rule,’ the last two co-signed.
