German companies are less optimistic about Romania’s future

20 December 2017

The current situation of the German companies in Romania is good, but the future is less optimistic, according to a survey of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce.

Their managers are unhappy both with the political and economic conditions as well as the situation in Romania’s education system. The lack of qualified staff is an important risk for the companies’ development.

Compared to last autumn's survey, the percentage of those who expect a worsening of the medium-term conjuncture increased from 8% to 29%. The political and economic framework represent by far the greatest risk to the local economy. Over 69% of the companies that took part in the survey are unhappy with this aspect, which is a significant worsening over last year.

Over 57% of the respondents are also unhappy with the state of the local education system, which doesn’t produce enough skilled workers. A growing number of German companies are also worried about the judicial system’s situation, after the Parliament adopted several controversial changes to the justice laws, which may affect the fight against corruption.
