Englishman arrested in Romania for growing cannabis

Two men, one of them an English citizen, were arrested preventively after prosecutors from Tulcea office of the Anti-Organized Crime Directorate (DIICOT) discovered that they had set up this summer an indoor cannabis cultivation site.

The two were detained for 24 hours for trafficking high-risk drugs.

The prosecutors performed searches in Tulcea and Constanta counties, in south-eastern Romania. They found the cannabis site in the Daeni commune, in Tulcea. It had been set up with a special lighting and heating system for the growth of the plants and included 53 cannabis plants, at various development stages. Green and dry cannabis totaling 6.7 kg was also found.

Furthermore, the prosecutors found, in one of the men’s car, 5 grams of cannabis and another 65 cannabis seeds in a package taken from a delivery company.

With the same searches, the prosecutors confiscated sums of money, phones, external disks and tablets.

DIICOT also decided the preventive, home arrest of the two men for 30 days.
