Largest online retailer eMag expects an increase in prices in the next period mainly because of the local currency’s depreciation in relation to the euro and the dollar, China's environmental protection legislation and wage growth, said eMag general director Iulian Stanciu, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

The prices will go up because most products sold by eMag.ro are imported and acquired in foreign currency.

"There are many products made in China: small home appliances, home products. About a year ago, China has enforced very strict environmental protection legislation, which has led to massive price increases. It is still not seen everywhere, but prices will also increase from compliance with this legislation," Stanciu added.

The price of a product is also influenced by the investments made by companies in equipment and personnel to compensate for the lack of local infrastructure, the eMag general manager said.

"The whole online commerce market can benefit from improved road infrastructure,” he added.
