Simona joined the Romania Insider team in 2015, first working on our travel guide in English and, later, writing features and interviews for Romania-insider.com. She holds a BA in Romanian and English and an MA in American Studies from the University of Bucharest and started her journalism career in 2003.  Simona divides her time between her hometown Ploiești and Bucharest. While in Ploiești, she enjoys spending time with her family and taking long walks with the family dog. Andrei studied finance at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies and started his journalism career in 2004 with Ziarul Financiar, the leading financial newspaper in Romania, where he worked for ten years, the last six of which as editor of the capital markets section. Andrei lives with his family in the countryside in Northern Romania, where he built their own house. In his free time, he studies horticulture and tends to his family’s garden. Two expat investors, Emmanuel Damanakis of Skepsis Advertising and Konstantinos Kapetanopoulos have taken the license to open the first Haagen Dazs Cafes in Romania, according to Romanian daily Ziarul Financiar. The first such store will be opened in Baneasa Shopping City.

Four babies have died after a blast which took place at Giulesti Maternity hospital in Bucharest last evening. The fire, which started started in the resuscitation unit, was soon after extinguished, but 11 newborn babies were affected. They were one or two days old and premature born. As events unfolded, not all the babies had been identified, while mothers were waiting outside the hospital for news.

Bike sharing has become an increasingly popular activity in Bucharest. I'Velo's bike sharing centers saw as many as 15,000 people using their bikes in the first week of August across Romania. Half of the users for I'Velo's free bikes were from Bucharest. Iasi and Cluj – Napoca followed with over 2,000 rentals each during the first week of August. Constanta came among last, with a bot over 1,000 rentals and, Targu Mures, with just below 800.
