Bucharest’s District 1 hires its first city manager

02 February 2018

The District 1 City Hall will hire a city manager, for the first time in the institution’s history, according to a decision of the District 1 Local Council.

The future city manager will be a public administrator and needs to have never been a member of a political party.

Last year, the Bucharest City Hall also selected the first city manager of the Romanian capital.

“The public administrator is not a simple employee, but a promoter of the reform of the local public administration system, a professional. This is why I say that the administrator needs to be completely apolitical,” Dan Tudorache, the District 1 mayor, said.

The appointment of the city manager will be made following a competition, where candidates need to submit a management project.

In order to be considered, candidates need to have Romanian, EU or European Economic Area citizenship, reside in Romania, be fluent in Romanian and have work experience in the field of their studies of minimum 15 years. Another condition is that they have MA or postgraduate studies in public administration, management or the studies needed to fill the position. They also need to speak a widely used foreign language.

The candidates who previously were members of a political party are not accepted.
