Romania's Fin Min says tax agency will move into former television studios

26 July 2018

Romanian finance minister Eugen Teodorovici said the tax agency ANAF would move into the former headquarters of the Antena 3 news station, which the state confiscated from local media mogul Dan Voiculescu after he was convicted to ten years in jail in a corruption case, in 2014.

The authorities haven’t managed to find a buyer for these assets and recover the damages in Voiculescu’s case, which is related to the illegal privatization of an agricultural research institute in Bucharest in 2004.

Teodorovici said that the central structure of the tax agency as well as some local ANAF structures in Bucharest should move to repossessed buildings, which would allow the agency to save about EUR 1 million in rents each month.
