Romanian President Klaus Iohannis names writer and former BBC editor as his spokesperson

Romanian writer and journalist Tatiana Niculescu Bran will be appointed spokesperson by new President Klaus Iohannis. She is the first member of Iohannis’ team who confirms her new role.

“Romania’s President-elect, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, asked me to be his spokesperson and communication counsellor. I’m honoured that he thought of me,” Tatiana Niculescu Bran wrote on her Facebook page.

She said the will put aside working on her new book to take this role. Her appointment hasn’t yet been made official by the Presidential Administration. Klaus Iohannis will start his presidential mandate on December 21 and only then he will be able to officially appoint his new counsellors.

Tatiana Niculescu Bran is a Romanian writer and former senior editor of the Bucharest Romanian Bureau of the BBC WS, from 2004 to 2008. She had previously worked as a radio presenter and producer of the World Service in London, from 1995 until 2004.

She wrote two non-fiction novels, Deadly Confession (Spovedanie la Tanacu) and Judges’ Book (Cartea Judecatorilor). Her first novel, Deadly Confession, also inspired film director Cristian Mungiu in producing and directing the film Beyond the Hills, which won the award for the best screenplay at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
