Romanian PM asks his ministers to watch Obama’s State of the Union address for common goals

21 January 2015

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday asked his ministers to make time and watch U.S. President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address if they haven’t watched it yet. He pointed out that many of Obama’s objectives are also the Romanian Government’s objectives, according to local Mediafax.

“For those of you who haven’t watched President Obama’s address last night (on Tuesday, January 20 – e.n.), please find the time to watch it. You will see the things we also have to do, which is to take care of people’s lives,” Ponta said at the beginning of this week’s Government meeting.

“He talked about solidarity, about a more balanced taxation, about support for students and disadvantaged categories, for the middle class. This is what we should also be doing day by day, and this is what we have been trying to do,” he added.

Ponta concluded by telling his ministers to “leave politics aside” and not think about who makes the Government with whom. He was referring to the intentions announced by Liberal leader Alina Gorghiu and former Social Democrat Marian Vanghelie to start working on creating new political majorities to form a new Government.

U.S. President Barack Obama presented on Tuesday his State of the Union annual address to the Congress.
