Romanian tennis player Florin Mergea and his British doubles partner Dominic Inglot beat the American pair Mike and Bob Bryan in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. They won after a hard fought match that spanned over three sets (7-6, 2-6, 10-8).

Mergea and Inglot advanced to the semi-finals of the competition. This was their second win over the Bryans this year. They also defeated the Americans in the third round of the Australian Open. The Bryans have dominated men’s doubles tennis in recent years.

Another Romanian, Horia Tecau, also made it to the semi-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Tecau and his doubles partner Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer beat Robert Lindstedt and Marcin Matkowski also in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 10-7).

Tecau and Mergea, who play together in Romania’s Davis Cup team, could meet in the Dubai finals. They also played against each other in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Tecau and Rojer won that match but failed to win the competition.
