OTE shareholders to vote rebranding of Romania’s Romtelecom and Cosmote

The Board of Greek company OTE summoned a general meeting of shareholders for April 30 for the approval of a licensing agreement with Deutsche Telekom through which Romania’s Romtelecom and Cosmote will get the right to use the brand ‘Telekom’.

The agreement will enter into force upon its signing and will be valid indefinitely, reports local Mediafax.

Through this agreement, Romtelecom and Cosmote will be able to register a corporate name containing ‘Telekom’ and use it both inside and outside the country.

In mid-March, 11 years after becoming majority shareholder in Romania’s telecom provider Romtelecom, Greek company OTE, which is in turn owned by Deutsche Telekom, has decided to re-brand the Romanian company, according to the local media.

At the same time, Cosmote, the mobile telephony division of OTE in Romania, is to become T-Mobile.
