Greek retailer wants to bring back Romanians working in Greece

27 October 2015

Greek toy retailer Jumbo, which has several stores in Romania, has announced its local customers that it wanted to hire Romanians currently working in Greece who wanted to return home, reports local Profit.ro.

Greece has severe economic problems and has an unemployment rate of over 25%. The retailer has posted a similar notice on its website in Greece. By repatriating Romanians, Jumbo would help free up some jobs in its home country.

The toy retailer isn’t the only Greek company that tries to help the economy. In 2013, the Greek company Sarantis closed its Elmiplant plant in Romania and moved the cosmetics production to Greece, to support the country’s economy and exports. The company invested EUR 1 million to transfer its production. The unit in Romania has been turned into a research and development center, according to Sarantis.

In Greece, young people are most affected by unemployment, as almost 50% of those between 15 and 25 have no jobs.
