George Enescu’s Symphony No. 3, performed on London stage this weekend

05 February 2015

London Philharmonic Orchestra will perform, for the first time in the British capital, the Romanian composer George Enescu's Symphony No.3.

The event will take place on February 7, 19:30 (London time), at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre. The orchestra’s conductor is Vladimir Jurowski.

This interpretation of Enescu’s work was first presented during the 2013 edition of the George Enescu Festival in Romania. That is when Jurowski decided to include the symphony in the orchestra’s international repertoire.

On Southbank Centre’s website, George Enescu’s Third Symphony is described as “a brooding, heroic and triumphant work for huge symphony orchestra and wordless chorus written at the height of the First World War”.

This year’s edition of George Enescu festival will take place between August 30 and September 20 and will include 20 works signed by the Romanian composer.

Boston's Symphony by the Sea orchestra will also perform Romanian and Hungarian music next week, including George Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody. Find out more here.
