EC: Let’s hope Romania’s Government is not too optimistic

27 October 2015

Romania’s economy can’t just grow on internal consumption and exports, which are currently the main growth sources, but also needs investments, starting with the transport infrastructure, said Angela Filote, head of the European Commission in Romania.

One of the reasons why Romania had a low budget deficit was the lack of investments, she added, reports local Agerpres.

The European Commission is not against fiscal relaxation and salary increases, but these need to be taken at the right time and with the right compensatory measures, Filote said.

“We have an optimistic Government. This is good, but let’s hope it’s not too optimistic. We are less optimistic about the country’s capacity to collect enough money from taxes to cover the fiscal measures which have recently been taken,” she said.
