Danish NGO co-founded by Romanian launches mobile app for the blind

Non-profit foundation Be My Eyes in Denmark, founded by Romanian Anton Korityak together with Hans Wiberg, Thelle Kristensen, Knud Hansen and Line Dybdahl, launched an app destined for visually impaired smartphone users.

The Be My Eyes app offer blind people access to a community of volunteers that have the sense of sight and can help them in different situations.

For example, in case a blind person needs help in different situations, like checking the expiration date on a product, they can turn on the app and make a video connection with one of the volunteers using the same app. The sighted helper is able to see and describe what the person films with thesmartphone's  video camera.

The app required an investment of some EUR 240,000, the funds ensured by Velux Fonden and the Danis Blind Society, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

The idea belongs to Hans Wiberg, who is visually impaired himself. The app is available for iOS terminals and can also be used in Romanian. Find out more about the app here.
