Communication Ministry: EUR 83 mln project brings internet to poor areas in Romania

The distribution network which will connect 783 places in Romania to the Internet by the end of 2015 will have a length of about 4,900 kilometers, according to the Ministry of Communication and Information Society.

The project, called Ro-NET, will run for 11 months, and is co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund and has a total value of EUR 83.9 million, EUR 56 million of which is non-reimbursable financial assistance.

Ro-NET aims to provide internet connections in disadvantaged rural areas, which currently have no internet coverage.

The project will cover 783 of the 2,268 places where operators had no plans to invest.
