Tourists to spend 10% less on accommodation & food in Romania

09 April 2015

Romanian and foreign tourists who will spend their holiday in Romania will spend 10% less on accommodation and food starting this summer.

This is due to the VAT cut from 24% to 9% for food products and services starting June this year.

The Government already lowered the tax on travel packages starting January 1, according to the Romanian National Authority for Tourism (ANT).

These reductions could stir a real competition with other countries, especially Bulgaria, said Mirela Matichescu, ANT vice-president, cited by local Mediafax.

She also believes that the recent disciplinary measures, accompanied by tax incentives, will be beneficial for the Romanian tourism.
