The Capital Grows Green: 4,000 trees to be planted in Bucharest

10 November 2014

Nearly 4,000 trees and shrubs will be planted in Bucharest this November under the “Capital Grows Green” campaign, according to a statement of the City Hall, cited by local Agerpres.

Several species of trees will be planted in Izvor Park, as well as in the gardens of 15 hospitals which are run by the City Hall, in four educational institutions and on several streets managed by the Municipality.

The new trees are planted by representatives of the City Hall and volunteers.

The “Capital Grows Green” campaign was initiated in 2009 by the Bucharest City Hall and aims at increasing the surface of green space per capita, reviving the green heritage, creating curtains for protection against air and noise pollution, and improving the quality of urban life.

In 2011, Bucharest had 23.21 sqm of green space for each inhabitant, according to official statistics.
