Romania’s trade deficit up to EUR 2.83 bln in the first half

Romania recorded a trade deficit of EUR 2.83 billion in the first six months of this year, up some EUR 298.8 million compared to the one registered in the same period of the previous year, according to the recent data from the National Statistics Institute.

The exports increased by 7.6 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2014, to EUR 25.5 billion, while the imports registered a growth of 8 percent, to EUR 28.3 billion.

By group of products, an important share of the exports and imports was held by cars and transport equipment - 43.6 of exports and 35.3 of imports and other manufactured goods.

In June 2014, according to the preliminary estimations of INS, the exports amounted to EUR 4.2 billion, while the imports totaled EUR 4.7 billion. This means a 5.4 percent year-on-year increase for exports and a 9.2 percent growth for imports.

The trade deficit was of EUR 555.1 million in June, up some EUR 188 million compared to the same month in 2013.
