Romania’s capital to host European Gymnastics Championships in 2017

Romania’s capital Bucharest will host the 7th European Championships in men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics in 2017. Bucharest’s municipality will invest EUR 80 million in a new sports complex which will also host this competition.

This event, approved by Executive Committee of the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG), will also celebrate 60 years since the first Women’s Gymnastics European Championships, organised in Bucharest in 1957.

Romania currently holds the record for most medals won in European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships: 140,  51 of which are gold medals.

Romania’s most famous gymnast is Nadia Comaneci, three-time Olympic gold medalist and the first female gymnast who received a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastics event.
