Romanian tennis star on the presidential elections: How can Romania win if people don’t go to vote?

07 November 2014

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, the current number 3 in the WTA ranking of the best women tennis players in the world, urges Romanians to go and vote in the presidential elections.

“How can you win if you don’t play the match? How can Romania win if we don’t go to vote?” she wrote on her Facebook page. “I say we go and vote what our conscience tells us. May Romania win!” she said to her one million Facebook fans.

She wrote this post after she got a lot of questions about the vote and her political sympathies. “A lot of people ask me about the vote. I don’t favor any politician, but I went and voted on Sunday, and I will also vote next week, out of a sentiment of responsibility for my country, which I have each time I enter the tennis court,” Halep explained.
