Romanian state could pay due salaries to state employees who won in court

10 November 2014

The state could pay this year the due salaries state employees have won in court and which should have been paid gradually, over several years. The amount stands at some EUR 1.2 billion.

“We believe we have the budget to make this payment by the end of the year,” said Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu, quoted by local Agerpres.

Romania had a budget surplus after the first ten months of this year, so it could cover this expense.

The payment is due after state employees went to court against the state’s decision to cut their salaries a few years back.
