The total quantity of milk collected by Romanian processing plants increased by 15.6% in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2013, to more than 504,000 tons, according to data published by Romania’s statistics institute (INS).

Romanian dairy companies also increased their outputs during the period. Drinking milk production was up 16.2%, to 128,000 tons, while cheese production grew by 13.9% to 39,615 tons.

Sour cream production was up by 11.3%, to 28,300 tons, the butter production was 5,086 tons, up by 7%, and the yogurts output grew by 3%, to 87,760 tons.

Imported milk declined by 14.8%, to 43,700 tons, in the first six months of 2014.
