Romania exports more energy in the first half of 2014

21 July 2014

Romania’s energy exports amounted in the first six months to 3.6 TWh, up 86 percent year-on-year, according to data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), quoted by local Ziarul Financiar. Romania is represented in the association by Transelectrica.

Bulgaria and Serbia were the main destinations of the energy from Romania, with 84 percent of energy exports. In Bulgaria, the energy produced in Romania balanced the deficit caused by a malfunction at a coal power plant, while exports to Serbia reached a peak in mid-May, when floods caused by heavy rains cut the power supply in some localities and triggered the shutdown of some Serbian thermo and hydro power plants.

Romania's energy exports to Serbia has increased six times in the analyzed period, reports Ziarul Financiar.
