Renewable energy units up almost 20-fold in Romania in four years

08 August 2014

The number of renewable energy production units in Romania reached 559 last year, from just 31 at the end of 2009. The total installed capacity reached 4,350 MW and the total green energy output was more than 22.3 TWh in 2013, said Attila Korodi, Romania’s minister of the environment and climatic changes, quoted by Agerpres.

He said that he contributed to this boom in his first mandate as environment minister, in 2006-2008, by promoting the ‘map of wind and sun’ in Romania, which was a first step for investment decisions in the sector.

By far the largest boom was in the solar power sector, where the number of power producing units increased from 41, in 2012, to 395, at the end of 2014.Korodi also said that Romania’s renewable energy output reached 40% of its total energy production at the end of last year.
