Romania’s railway company auctions first part of Bucharest's airport line

13 February 2019

Romania’s railway infrastructure company CFR earmarked RON 420 million (EUR 90 million) for the design and construction of a railway segment that would be part of the rail link between Bucharest's central train station (Gara de Nord) and the Henri Coanda International Airport in Otopeni.

The biggest part of the sum, almost RON 403 million (EUR 86 million) is for the construction of nearly 3 km of railway and a 1.5-km viaduct over the busy DN1 national road. For the design, CFR earmarked another RON 17 million (EUR 3.7 million), local Ziarul Financiar reported.

The plan should be completed within two months and the construction work should take no more than 12 months. The deadline for submitting the offers is March 25.

The whole project should be completed by June 2020 when Romania will host four football matches of the UEFA Euro 2020 championship, but chances to meet the deadline are rather thin.
