American television services company TiVo to open R&D center in Romania

27 January 2015

The US television services company TiVo will open a research & development (R&D) center in Iasi, Northern-Eastern Romania.

The group has recently closed off a deal with the Israeli IT&C group Ness Software Engineering Services (SES) to help it set up the engineering center in Iasi, according to an official announcement. This new Engineering Centre will provide TiVo with the ability to grow and expand its European R&D capabilities as TiVo's international operations continue to grow.

"After an in-depth evaluation, we found Romania to be an exceptional location for our new Engineering Centre," said Dan Phillips, TiVo's Chief Operating Officer and SVP of Engineering.

"Excellent universities in Romania will provide talented IT graduates, and the political and macroeconomic conditions are favourable to businesses. Our continued growth as a global leader in the Pay TV market will be significantly enhanced by the access to the highly skilled engineering talent in Romania,” he added.

TiVo selected Ness SES for its expertise in designing and deploying advanced television solutions. Ness has been present in Romania since 2005.

Initially, Ness SES will provide TiVo with a dedicated R&D team to help bring TiVo products to market. Over time, TiVo intends to transition the Engineering Centre into a fully TiVo-owned facility.

TiVo became famous for launching the digital video recorder (DVR) in 1999. The company is now a global leader in next-generation television services. TiVo's cloud-based solutions enable viewers to consume content across all screens in and out-of-the home.
