American missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf returns to the Black Sea

08 August 2014

American military ship USS Vella Gulf entered the Black Sea on August 6, as part of a mission to promote peace and stability in the region, according to Mediafax.

It’s for the second time that missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf visits the Black Sea this year after a one month mission in June. “Vella Gulf's mission is to improve interoperability and work toward mutual goals, demonstrating the United States' commitment to strengthening the collective security of NATO allies and partners in the region,” said the U.S. Navy.

Two other American ships, the USS Donald Cook destroyer and the USS Taylor frigate have also had missions in the Black Sea since the conflict between Ukraine and Russia burst at the beginning of this year.
