Romanian PM, before Nokia announcement: High risk of multinationals leaving Romania

29 September 2011

There is a high risk that multinational companies withdraw their investments from Romania, as the crisis increases the global competition, so the Romanian Government must be prepared to attract new investments to the country, said Romanian prime Minister Emil Boc (in picture) during the Government meeting on Wednesday. His comment came just a day before Nokia announced it will close down the factory at Jucu, close to Cluj – Napoca in Romania.

Boc said he will take over the direct coordination of the Romanian Center for the Promotion of Trade and Foreign Investments.

“I have noticed that, if we leave the beaurocratic mechanism have its way, investors take their intentions and leave, taking the money with them. […] We are in a global competition, and the economic crisis increases it,” said Emil Boc.
