Retailers in Romania: Shelf prices will reflect VAT cut on food

09 April 2015

The VAT reduction on food, soft drinks and food services from 24% to 9% starting June 1 will reflect entirely in shelf prices, according to the Association of Big Commercial Networks in Romania (AMRCR).

The association hopes that the Government will cut the VAT on other products too.

It estimates the measure will have positive results, bigger than the one predicted by economic analysts, reports local Mediafax.

Association members expressed willingness to transfer this reduction into the products’ final price, as they believe the VAT cut should benefit consumers.

The Association of Big Commercial Networks in Romania was founded in 2003 and includes retailers such as Metro Cash & Carry, Mega Image, Auchan, Billa, Carrefour, Cora, among others.
